Parking directions for our contractors/vendors

PARKING OPTIONS around Mishkon are not easy to explain to our contractors and vendors.

Below the jump, this post gives a run-down of the options.…

For reference, here is a satellite photo of the vicinity.

(As usual, click/tap on an image to enlarge it.)

Here are the options, in order of a contractor/vendor’s probable preference.

1.  On 2nd Street in Santa Monica (which turns into Hampton Drive in Venice at the alley next to our office building), there is all-day street parking. Fortunately, there’s usually at least one space available around 8am, and it’s quite close to us.

2.  On Main Street, you may be able to park in front of the building immediately to our north. The closest space to our sanctuary entrance is marked “Loading Zone,” which is good for unloading equipment. The next spot to the north is not restricted by signage or a meter, at least the last time I checked. However, our neighbor has lots of construction underway and usually has his own contractors park there.

3.  Along Hampton Drive  =  no restrictions on the west side (except right in front of our building); 2-hour parking (not metered) on the east side.

4.  Along Main Street  =  1-hour parking (metered)

5.  Contractors often park in the alley alongside our office/school building. However, according to our executive director, don’t park there for more than a few minutes. Trash trucks (on Wednesdays) and delivery vehicles regularly come through the alley, and they need the entire width of the alley. When those trucks can’t get through, our staff gets yelled at. In addition, the city Dept. of Transportation has been known to issue tickets because the alley is considered a fire lane.

Streetsweeping Days

Streetsweeping occurs on Mishkon’s side of Main St. and of Hampton Dr. between 10am to noon on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. The other side of the street: same but on Monday rather than Tuesday.

(In other words, Monday and Tuesday mornings can be the worst times to arrange for a delivery.)
