Asbestos abatement for the Renovation Project (Background Report)

OUR PRESIDENT HAS SIGNED an asbestos abatement contract with Altech Environmental Inc. Next month, they will remove the original brown vinyl floor tile (and any flooring layers above it) from the Renovation Project areas: women’s restroom, men’s restroom, the twin open spaces at the back of the sanctuary, and the southeast exit corridor. They will leave an exposed subfloor in those areas.

Role of the architect during construction (Background Report)

I HAVE BEEN ASKED what role our architect will play during the construction portion of our Renovation Project. The short answer is: Kaplan Chen Kaplan Architects will be a crucial partner in ensuring that everything goes as smoothly as possible. 

According to the contract documents that we are using (which are standard for projects like ours), the basic duties are being split as follows: 

• Now that the architect has determined what must be done, the general contractor determines how it gets done. 
• Along the way, the architect administers the contract on our behalf.
