ABOUT 6 HOURS after the rain stopped, I poked around to see how the synagogue fared. (Exactly 0.86” of rain had been measured nearby as falling within a 54-hour period—the most intensive storm so far this season.)

Below the jump, this post briefly records the water-intrusion problems that still remain in 8 out of the 10 areas that I checked.…
SUMMARY: Recent waterproofing efforts seem to have made a difference, especially along the south wall, but there are still lingering issues everywhere else.
1. Southwest corner of portico
No dripping from underneath the corner column as occurred in previous years. The most corroded spot was dry. However, the concrete next to one of the nearby spalled areas registered as damp via the moisture meter. Perhaps because the portico surface got wet.
2. Leaky spots under the front steps of the sanctuary
Drip pans collected water, as usual. No water under the most corroded spot, but it registered as damp via the moisture meter.
3. North wall under steps, adjoining the north planter
Registered as damp via the moisture meter.
4. Portico’s southwest corner column
Cracked area in paint (north face, below eye level) not visibly worse since after the previous rainstorm. Newly noticed an additional crack in the paint, higher up.
5. Front stairwell at site of longstanding efflorescence
Visible bubbling and cracking in surface of recently applied drywall compound, on both the south and west walls.
6. South wall interior, jagged crack at row 14
Did not register as damp via the moisture meter.
7. South wall, in front of row 1
Did not register as damp via the moisture meter.
8. Concrete at threshold of outer door of southeast corridor from sanctuary
Registered as damp via the moisture meter. (In contrast, the concrete of the porch just outside the doorway did not register as damp.)
9. Walls of basement furnace room
No flow from above ceiling, or from walls, as occurred in previous years. The east wall did not register as damp via the moisture meter, even at the site of patches. The wooden post was likewise dry. However, near the corner, a small piece of the south wall was visibly damp. Also some debris in the corner at the base was damp, but perhaps this was left over from the plumbing repair several weeks ago.
10. Spot in attic underneath front edge of rooftop shed
Even though our roofer has worked to address this spot more than once, the wood joist is still getting soaked—but happily not enough to drip as before.
