Gross usable area of preschool rooms

INTERIOR Gross Usable Area  =  Large Classroom  +  Shemesh Classroom  +  Library  +  Chapel  =  1986.09 sq ft

EXTERIOR Gross Usable Area  =  Play yard  =  1390.67 sq ft

For the measurements and calculations, based on the “School Floor Plan” as-found architectural drawing in the 2003 Historic Structure Report, see below the jump.

Note: The scale that accompanies Drawing 13 (School Floor Plan) does not fit the specific measurements that are recorded on that drawing. (The difference is substantial — a measured 20' dimension is some 25% longer than the scale’s 20' length!) Ignoring the scale, I followed the measured figures and created my own scale accordingly.

Classrooms 1 & 2 (Large Classroom)

Rectangle:  19'4"  x  36'5½"  =  232"  x  437.5"  =  704.86 sq ft.

Classroom 3 (Shemesh)

Rectangle:  19'4"  x  18'8"  =  232"  x  224"  =  360.89 sq ft.

Triangle:  Base = 19'4" = 232"; Height = 2'6"  =  30"

Area = ½ * Base * Height  =  24.17 sq ft.

Vestibule (rectangle to be subtracted):  3'6"  x  5'  =  17.5 sq ft

Total  =  360.89  +  24.17  –  17.5  =  367.56 sq ft

Library (Bookshelves Excluded)

Rectangle:  19'  x  16'  =  304 sq ft.

Triangle:  Base = 19'; Height = 2'6"

Area = ½ * Base * Height  =  23.75 sq ft.

Total  =  304  +  23.75  =  327.75 sq ft

Chapel (Kitchenette and Ark Closet Excluded)

Rectangle:  28'5"  x  19'9"  =  341"  x  237"  =  561.23 sq ft.

Triangle:  Base = 19'9"  =  237"; Height = 2'6"  =  30"

Area = ½ * Base * Height  =  24.69 sq ft.

Total  =  561.23  +  24.69  =  585.92 sq ft

Play Yard (Patios at Sanctuary Exits Excluded)

Triangle:  Hypotenuse = 50'0"; Short leg (“a”) = 6'0"

Solving the Pythagorean equation to derive the longer leg (“b”): Square root of (2500 – 36)  =  49'8"

Triangle Base = 49'8"  =  596"; Height = 6'0"  =  72"

Area = ½ * Base * Height  =  149 sq ft.

Rectangle:  25'0"  x  49'8"  =  300"  x  596"  =  1241.67 sq ft.

Total  =  149  +  1241.67  =  1390.67 sq ft
