Smoke alarms and CO detectors in the school building

THIS POST is an inventory of safety devices on the walls and ceilings — sensors whose batteries occasionally need to be replaced. (It does not make note of the alarm system’s motion sensors, nor of clocks.)


Types of Devices

SMOKE ALARM — PHOTOELECTRIC.  According to Consumer Reports, this type is “best at detecting the large particles typical of smoky, smoldering fires but poor at detecting fast, flaming fires. Photoelectric units are less prone to false alarms from burnt food, so they may be a better fit in kitchen areas.”

This unit is hard-wired to building electricity.

Apparently it also has a battery.

Honeywell 5808W3



SMOKE ALARM — IONIZATION.  According to Consumer Reports, this type is “best at detecting the small particles typical of fast, flaming fires. [These] are prone to false alarms from burnt food and steam, so don’t mount them near a kitchen or bathroom.

CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR.  The make and model does not appear to be listed on the front or the back.
