About the thermostats

WE HAVE THREE thermostats, all of which are the same model: a Honeywell Wifi 9000 Color Touchscreen. For the manual and online support, go HERE.

Below the jump, this post explains some features of our thermal comfort control system.…

Lead time for heating/cooling

The thermostats should be set for the actual starting time of expected occupancy. There is no need to set a thermostat to go on “early” in order to get the space ready; in fact, it wastes energy to do so. That’s because these thermostats are equipped with a Smart Response Technology feature, which has enabled the thermostat to “learn” how long it takes to reach a desired setpoint — and thus to begin the heating or cooling phase earlier than the scheduled start time, as needed.

When you come early and see the displayed message “following schedule in recovery,” it means that the system has activated itself before a scheduled time period.

Setting custom events

We can customize the temperature settings to be maintained during a specific event (e.g., a Jewish holiday, aside from Shabbat, on which worship services are held). We can set up that event for a specific date, or a specific day of the month. After the event, the thermostat resumes normal scheduling.

  1. Touch MENU.
  2. Select Holiday/Event Scheduler.
  3. Select Custom Events.

Setting general holidays

This feature helps us conserve energy when the space is unoccupied for secular holidays, such as Thanksgiving.

  1. 1  Touch MENU.

  2. 2  Select Holiday/Event Scheduler.

  3. 3  Select US Holidays to choose from a list of holidays commonly observed.

    • Custom Events lets you set up other days for special schedules.

    • US and Canadian Holiday options let you select from a list of holidays commonly observed in each country.

Overriding a schedule

Sometimes the pre-set schedule isn’t meeting the immediate need, so we can override it. To do so, touch [up arrow] or [down arrow] to adjust the temperature. It will be maintained until the hold time that you set. To change the default hold time, touch the Hold Until arrow buttons. This time can be adjusted up to 3 hours.

Setting the fan

  1. 1  Touch the FAN tab.

  2. 2  Touch OnAutomatic, or Follow Schedule.

  3. • On:  Fan is always on.
(Use of this setting should be only temporary! Otherwise the fan will run even when the building is unoccupied.)
    • Automatic:  Fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is on.
(For the sanctuary, this should be the normal setting.)
    • Follow Schedule: Fan runs during the preset “occupied” periods.
(For the school, this should be the normal setting. For the sanctuary, use this setting if during a preset “occupied” period AND if either continual air filtering or added ventilation is desired.)

  4. 3  Touch Done to save and exit.

Adjusting security settings

We can adjust security options to prevent unauthorized changes to system settings. See the manual for details.

Resetting the thermostat

If for some reason a thermostat needs to be disconnected or reset, simply grasp it pull it straight out from the wall, to unplug it. Keep away from wall for one minute. Then push it back into the sockets. It will automatically reconnect to the Internet via wifi, and it will resume its previous settings.
